Who is... FRANCISCO MANGADO?



FRANCISCO MANGADO (es)
Born in Navarre in 1957, Francisco Mangado earned his architecture degree from the University of Navarre School of Architecture in 1982, and has since made this institution the center of his teaching career. He has been a guest professor at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, as well as Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor at Yale’s School of Architecture and Studio Professor in the Navarre school’s Master of Architectural Design program. In June 2008 he set up the Fundación Arquitectura y Sociedad, which aims to help increase architecture’s interaction with other fields of knowledge and action. His architectural practice is combined with this academic activity and foundation work, which he runs from his studio in Pamplona. For his professional work Mangado has earned an Andrea Palladio International Architecture Award, a City of Thiene Architecture Award, an Architécti prize, the FAD and CEOE awards, and many more. His Plaza Dalí in Madrid won first prize in the Madrid City Hall’s 20th Urban Planning, Architecture and Public Works Awards (2005 edition). He won first prize in the 2007 Saloni Architectural Awards and the grand prize in the Enor Architecture Awards for his Nueva Balastera Football Stadium in Palencia. His Spanish Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008 has merited the following honors: first prize in the 7th ASCER Ceramic Architecture Awards in 2008, First Prize for Construction at Construmat 2009, the Giancarlo Ius Gold Medal given by the UIA at the 4th Barbara Cappochin International Architecture Biennial in August 2009, and the Fernando García Mercadal Prize of the Aragon Architects Association (COA) the following September. In October 2009, Spain’s National Council of Architects’ Associations proclaimed the Pavilion winner of the National Architecture Prize for an individual work. In September 2009, Mangado’s Archaeology Museum in Vitoria capped the Copper in Architecture Award of the European Copper Institute in London, and in March 2010 it won first prize in the Civic Construction category of the Basque-Navarrese Institute of Architects Association (COAVN) Awards. Notable among Mangado’s works are the Cultural Center and Church in Thiene (Italy), the Auditorium and Congress Center of Pamplona, the Place Pey Berland in Bordeaux, the Municipal Exhibition and Congress Center of Ávila, the Archaeology Museum of Vitoria, the Football Stadium of Palencia, and the Spanish Pavilion at the 2008 International Exposition in Zaragoza. More recent projects include the Congress Center of Palma de Mallorca, the Fine Arts Museum of Asturias in Oviedo, and an office tower in Buenos Aires. The Baluarte Auditorium and Congress Center in Pamplona and the Lienzo Norte Exhibition and Congress Center in Ávila were included in the exhibition on Spanish architecture that was held at the MoMA in New York City, as well as in Madrid, in 2006.

As explicit in the AICO Award Competition Rules the competing projects must be delivered from tomorrow, July 30, until August 16 at JOFEBAR facilities or mailed through postal services under registered mail and notice of reception, which will be valid as proof of delivery.

Timing Summary:

b) Winners announcement - August 30, 2010;
c) Awards delivery and Presentation of the Winning Project at AICO - September 4, 2010.

Who is... ADAMO FAIDEN?



ADAMO FAIDEN (ar)
Sebastian Adamo (1977) and Marcelo Faiden (1977), architects graduated by the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA-FADU) and doctorates by the Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona (ESTAB-UPC). They are partners since 2005 and are both teachers of Project Design at the University of Buenos Aires. Their work was exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum, in New York, and the Venice Biennale. Their work was recently compiled in a monograph published by the Catholic University of Chile (Ediciones ARQ) and they were awarded with the Gold Medal at the XII International Biennial of Buenos Aires.

Who is... ELDING OSCARSON?



ELDING + OSCARSON (se)
Elding Oscarson is a recently started office run by Johan Oscarson and Jonas Elding. The collective experience is covering both Swedish and international architecture, from museums to private houses, interiors, furniture and product design.
Jonas Elding was born in 1972. Master of Architecture by the Lund School of Architecture, at Lund University, between 1994 and 1999. Architecure, Postgraduate Diploma Course, Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh in 1998. From 1999 to 2007 he worked at Sejima + Nishizawa / SANAA, in Tokyo, Japan.
Johan Oscarson was born in 1974. Master of Architecture by the Lund School of Architecture, at Lund University, between 1994 and 1999. Architecture, Postgraduate Diploma Course, South Bank University, London, in 1998. He worked in Vertigo, Jonas Lindvall at Malmö in 1995. From 1989 to 1998 at BLÅ Station, Börge Lindau at Åhus. Between 1998 and 1999 work in Barber Osgerby Associates, Edward Barber & Jason Osgerby at London, and from 1994 to 1999 work in Sandellsandberg, Thomas Sandell at Stockholm.
